Description
Almalarga comes from Adega Pena das Donas, sited above the river Sil in Pombeiro, Lugo, in the Galician appellation of Ribeira Sacra. The vineyards sit on the steep terraced banks of the river, worked by hand in the demanding style Ribeira Sacra is known for. Godello is the region's finest white grape, giving weight and stone fruit while holding good natural acidity in this Atlantic-influenced, altitude-tempered climate. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for four months on its fine lees in tank. Lees ageing lets the yeast cells break down and release mannoproteins into the wine, which broaden the mid-palate and add a subtle bready depth without any oak character, while the steel keeps the fruit fresh and precise. It pours pale lemon with a green edge. The nose shows white peach, pear and citrus with a touch of white flowers and a fresh dough note from the lees. The palate is rounded and textured for its weight, the ripe fruit balanced by a saline, mineral line and a clean, moderately long finish. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees.

Additional information
A natural partner for shellfish and Galician-style seafood, from grilled prawns to octopus, where the saline minerality mirrors the sea. The rounded lees texture also carries roast chicken and richer white fish such as baked cod or hake.
