Alléno & Chapoutier is the partnership of chef Yannick Alléno and the Rhône house of Chapoutier. This Côtes du Rhône is Grenache-led, raised in concrete, giving a warm, fruit-driven red of ripe berries, garrigue herbs and peppery spice.
Description
Alléno & Chapoutier brings together the chef Yannick Alléno and the established Rhône producer Michel Chapoutier, and this Côtes du Rhône is built on Grenache, the backbone red grape of the southern Rhône. The warm Mediterranean climate ripens Grenache to generous, sweet-fruited concentration, while the region’s stony soils retain daytime heat and the surrounding garrigue lends a herbal, savoury character. Ageing in concrete tanks rather than oak preserves the freshness and pure fruit of the grape, the inert vessel allowing the wine to settle and soften without adding wood flavour or colour. The wine is bright ruby-red. The nose is generous, with raspberry, red plum and cherry over a peppery, dried-herb lift, while the palate is medium to full bodied and warm at 14.5 percent, with soft, rounded tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury, liquorice-tinged finish. It is approachable and ready to drink. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees Celsius alongside grilled meats, roast lamb or a herb-rubbed pork roast.
