Description
Corte Giara Chardonnay is an IGT Veneto white from Allegrini, a family with roots in Valpolicella winemaking since the sixteenth century. The fruit comes from gentle hills cooled by breezes off Lake Garda, a temperate setting that slows ripening and keeps acidity firm. Chardonnay adapts well here, giving orchard and citrus fruit rather than the tropical ripeness of warmer zones. Vinification is deliberately fresh and reductive: the wine is fermented and then aged for four months in stainless steel, with no oak contact. Working in tank at low temperature preserves primary aromatics and delivers a crisp, unoaked style built for early drinking. The wine is bright and pale in the glass. The nose leads with citrus, lemon and lime to the fore, backed by green apple, pear and a hint of white flowers. The palate is light to medium bodied and clean, the acidity keeping it lively through a fresh, slightly saline finish with a touch of melon. This is an uncomplicated, versatile white made for relaxed drinking rather than the cellar. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif, or with light fish dishes, seafood pasta and simply roasted chicken.
