Description
Algueira Finca Cortezada is made by Adega Algueira in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, from the native Albariño, Godello and Treixadura grapes. Fernando González and Ana farm vines on slopes rising above the river Sil at gradients as steep as 85 degrees, working the terraces by hand in a style Galicia calls heroic viticulture. The three grapes complement one another: Albariño brings stone fruit and salinity, Godello adds weight and structure, and Treixadura contributes floral aromatics and freshness. The steep, schist-influenced slopes and the moderating river create an exceptional microclimate, cool and Atlantic-influenced, that preserves the bright natural acidity these grapes are known for. The wine is aged on its lees, which broadens the texture and adds a subtle bready depth through mannoprotein release while keeping the fruit fresh and precise. It pours pale lemon with a green tint. The nose shows white peach, citrus and pear over white flowers, with a saline, mineral lift. The palate is fresh and textured, the fruit carried on a firm line of acidity to a stony, salty finish. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees.
