Pear, green apple and anise with a salty, mineral streak and coastal smoky wood, this 10 year old Albion-marque Demerara is a raw, fruit-forward pot still bottled unsweetened at a full-throttle 64.6%.
Description
Bottled by Denmark's 1423 for its transparent Single Barrel Selection, this is a 2012 Albion from a single cask at 10 years of age. Albion is one of Guyana's lost estate marques, recreated on the surviving stills at Diamond, and this is a vivid, raw take on that pot still character rather than a polished old vintage.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled unsweetened at a hefty 64.6%, it is young and full of energy. Pear, green apple and anise lead over a salty, mineral streak and coastal, smoky wood, with a cream-toffee note on the finish. The youth and high proof mean plenty of bite alongside the bright fruit, so a little water helps. This one suits drinkers who like young, high-strength Guyanese rum and want the distillate vivid and unvarnished.
