Description
Curiosa Rosat is made by Albet i Noya in Penedès, a Catalan estate that began farming organically in 1979 and is regarded as a pioneer of the movement in Spain. The wine is a blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah, an unusual pairing in this region. The climate is warm and soft, Mediterranean in nature, with long hot summers and cold dry winters. The vines are over ten years old and planted on soils poor in organic matter but high in clay, sand and limestone, a combination that limits vigour and keeps yields modest, concentrating flavour while the limestone underpins acidity. The grapes are given around 24 hours of skin contact after pressing, enough to lift colour and red fruit from the Pinot Noir and a little structure from the Syrah, before fermentation at controlled temperature to preserve freshness and aromatic detail. The wine is pale pink, with aromas of wild strawberry, redcurrant and white peach over a delicate floral note. The palate is dry and crisp, with clean red fruit and a citrus edge on the finish. It is organic and certified vegan. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
