Albet i Noya, a pioneer of organic viticulture in Spain, makes this young Tempranillo in D.O. Penedès from its own estate vines. Unoaked and vegan, it is fresh and fruit forward with cherry, raspberry and a soft, juicy texture.
Description
Albet i Noya Curiós Tempranillo is a young red from Albet i Noya in D.O. Penedès, a Catalan winery founded in 1979 and a pioneer of organic viticulture in Spain. The wine, previously called Clàssic Tempranillo, is made entirely from Tempranillo grown across 8.5 hectares of the estate's own organic vineyards. Penedès has a Mediterranean climate of long hot summers and cold dry winters, with coastal and altitude influences that moderate the heat and let the fruit ripen evenly while keeping acidity. The wine sees no oak ageing, so the focus stays on bright, primary fruit and the supple tannins of young Tempranillo, the unoaked style keeping it fresh and immediate. It is certified organic and vegan, the latter meaning no animal derived fining agents are used. The result is a light to medium bodied red with cherry, raspberry and red plum, a touch of dried herb and a soft, juicy texture on fresh acidity and gentle tannins. The finish is clean and fruit driven. Serve at 14 to 16C, lightly chilled if you like, in a standard red glass. It is an easy match for roast chicken, pork and tomato based dishes.
