Albert Michler Distillery bottled this single cask of Foursquare, the strict no additives pot and column rum from Richard Seale's St Philip distillery in Barbados. Distilled in 2005 and aged fifteen years, it is offered at 48%, a long matured but moderately proofed expression.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it leans woody and slightly darker than some peers, with coconut, tobacco and candied fruit on the nose. The palate brings honey, pineapple and a fruity character over the wood, the finish earthy with barrel and caramel. The fifteen years show in the oak depth, while the proof keeps it accessible rather than fierce. A solid, wood forward take on the Barbadian style, it carries the recognisable Foursquare notes of vanilla and fruit alongside a riper, more candied edge, an unhurried single cask for relaxed sipping.
