Albert Michler Distillery Diamond Demerara 2010

Albert Michler Distillery bottled this 2010 Diamond as an unsweetened single cask, a ten year old Guyanese rum drawn from a blend of pot and column still spirit. That combination keeps it on the more accessible side of the Demerara family, the Diamond style with wood and roast rather than heavy oil. At a moderate strength and certified free of added sugar, it is an honest, mid weight expression.

Molasses based and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it noses on roast, tropical fruit, wood and leather, with raisin and nuts emerging, then carries wood, citrus, roast and tropical fruit onto an elegant, subtle palate before an earthy, spiced, leathery finish. It can read alcoholic on first pour and needs a quarter hour in the glass to settle, after which it opens considerably. Bottled at 45% without sweetening, it is a refined, wood and fruit driven Diamond that rewards a little patience, a solid unsweetened option in the lighter Guyanese style.
