Description
Palacio de Fefinanes is a historic Rias Baixas winery in Cambados, founded in 1928, and one of the reference names for Albarino. The grapes for this bottling come from vineyards on granite soils in the Salnes valley, close to the Atlantic, where the cool, damp maritime climate and stony ground give the grape its bright acidity and saline character. After a harvest in early October, the wine ferments in stainless steel and then rests an unusually long twenty-seven months on its fine lees. This extended lees ageing releases mannoproteins that build a broad, creamy texture, while the stainless steel keeps the fruit fresh and the minerality clean, with no oak influence. In the glass it is pale straw with green highlights, showing lemon, white peach, orchard fruit and white flowers over a stony, saline minerality. The palate is fresh but textured, with citrus and stone fruit, a leesy weight and a long, salty, mineral finish that reflects its coastal origin. Serve at around 10 degrees in a white-wine glass.
