Palacio de Fefiñanes made the first vintage of this Rías Baixas Albariño in 1928, from the Salnés Valley. Grown on granite soils by the Atlantic, it is fresh and lively, with green apple, pear and lemon over a saline, mineral finish.
Description
Bodega del Palacio de Fefiñanes produce this varietal Albariño in the D.O. Rías Baixas, having made the first vintage in 1928 as a pioneer of the grape. The fruit comes from the Salnés Valley, the coolest and most maritime part of the appellation, where the vineyards grow on granite soils close to the Atlantic. High rainfall and constant sea air give Albariño its trademark high natural acidity and a saline edge, and the granite bedrock lends a mineral cut. The wine is made in a fresh, protective style that keeps the aromatics intact, so the character is driven by fruit and terroir rather than oak. The colour is pale with green tints, and the nose is lively and precise, with green apple and pear alongside lemon and grapefruit. The palate is crisp and light to medium bodied, the citrus fruit tightened by a firm acidity and finished with a note of sea salt and stone. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is a natural match for the shellfish and fish of its home coast, and makes a clean aperitif.
