Description
Albamar works on the coast of Rías Baixas in Galicia, where the Atlantic sets the tone: mild temperatures, high rainfall and cooling sea winds that hold the grapes' acidity. Sesenta e Nove Arrobas is a pure Albariño taken from four plots on granite-dominated soils, which lend the wine its saline cut and a firm mineral spine. After a gentle pressing the wine spends fifteen months on its fine lees in stainless steel. Long lees contact and the slow release of mannoproteins broaden the mid-palate and add a bready, savoury dimension, while the steel keeps the fruit precise and free of oak. It pours a bright straw yellow and opens with lemon, green apple and white peach over citrus peel, sea salt and fresh dough. The palate is taut and briny, with the weight of the lees balanced by Atlantic acidity and a long saline finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.
