Albamar is a single variety Albariño from O Salnés in DO Rías Baixas, grown on sandy soils beside the Ría de Arousa. From vines over 25 years old and rested six months on lees in steel, it is saline and fresh, with green apple and citrus.
Description
Albamar works in O Salnés, in the Atlantic core of DO Rías Baixas, close to the Ría de Arousa. This is a single variety Albariño from vines more than 25 years old planted on sandy soils near the water and trained on the traditional pergola system that lifts the fruit clear of the damp maritime air. The cool, wet ocean climate gives Albariño its high natural acidity and briny character, and the sandy soils lend a light, mineral quality to the wine. Fruit is picked and sorted by hand to reach the cellar intact, then the wine is made in stainless steel and held six months on its lees. That lees ageing broadens the palate and adds a subtle savoury weight while keeping the wine taut and fresh. The colour is straw yellow with greenish flashes. The nose is intense and briny, with green apple and citrus over a clear saline note that recalls the sea. The palate is crisp and vivid, with white peach, lemon and a firm, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is built for the shellfish and oily fish of the Galician coast.
