Martín Códax grows the Albariño for Alba Martín in seaside vineyards in Rías Baixas, then ferments it in temperature controlled steel with no ageing. The result is fresh and youthful, with green apple, pear and white peach over a saline, coastal finish.
Description
Alba Martín is a single variety Albariño from D.O. Rías Baixas, made by Martín Códax, one of the largest and best known producers in the region. The grapes come from vineyards close to the Atlantic, which shapes the style through cool maritime air, granitic sandy soils and high rainfall. That coastal setting gives the wine its firm acidity and saline lift. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks under close temperature control and the wine is bottled with no ageing, a method that holds on to the grape's bright primary fruit and keeps the palate fresh and direct. The wine is pale straw with green highlights. The nose is fruity and open, led by green apple and ripe pear with white peach behind and a floral touch. The palate is crisp and youthful, the fruit carried on lively acidity to a clean, salty finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It is a reliable aperitif and a natural match for shellfish, oysters and simply grilled white fish.
