Description
Alamos is the Catena Zapata range drawn from the family's younger vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina, named after the poplar trees that shelter the vines. This rosé is made from Malbec, the grape Mendoza is best known for, pressed early to give a pale, light pink rather than a deep red colour. The vineyards sit at altitude in the high desert of Cuyo, where intense sunlight ripens the fruit but cold mountain nights preserve acidity and aromatic intensity, the diurnal swing that defines Andean viticulture. The wine spends five months in French and American oak barrels, a short ageing that adds a little roundness and texture while keeping the fruit fresh and the body light. The result is an exceptionally pale, light rosé. The nose is aromatic, leading with fresh red cherry, rosewater and a hint of dried herbs, with a citrus edge. The palate is dry and crisp, medium in weight, with clean acidity and a fresh, fruit-driven finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It is an easy aperitif and pairs with salads, lighter fish and grilled poultry.
