Alamos Malbec comes from Mendoza, made by the Catena Zapata family at altitude in the Argentine Andes. Eight months in French oak give a ripe, juicy red of dark plum and blackberry with a subtle spicy edge.
Description
Alamos is the high-altitude range from the Catena Zapata family in Mendoza, the heart of Argentine wine country in the foothills of the Andes. This is their Malbec, the grape that made the region's name. The vineyards sit at altitude, where intense sunlight ripens the fruit fully while cold mountain nights and a wide diurnal range preserve acidity and fix deep colour and aroma in the thick skins. The dry, sunny continental climate and poor alluvial soils give healthy, concentrated fruit with ripe, supple tannins. The wine spends eight months in French oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a frame of sweet spice and vanilla without burying the fruit. The colour is deep, opaque violet red. The nose is generous, with ripe dark plum and blackberry lifted by a subtle peppery, spicy edge. The palate is full bodied and juicy, the rich dark fruit carried on round, ripe tannins, with a touch of cocoa and oak spice through a warm, smooth finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is built for grilled red meat and the Argentine asado.
