Description
This is a 5 Years Old single malt from Eigashima Shuzo, distilled at its Akashi distillery in Hyogo, one of Japan's longest-established whisky sites with a licence dating to 1919. The expression was bottled at cask strength at 50% specifically for the French market, from a red wine cask maturation.
Red wine wood lends the typically clean Eigashima new make a vivid berry and stone fruit dimension, with the spirit's own lightness providing balance. The cask is a popular finish at this house, which runs a varied wood programme alongside more conventional bourbon and sherry casks. Flavour notes were not recorded for this bottling, but the wine cask and cask strength delivery point to a fresh, fruit-driven and lively dram.
