Description
A 5 Years Old single malt from Eigashima Shuzo, distilled at Akashi in Hyogo prefecture, bottled at cask strength at 50% for the French market. Eigashima holds Japan's oldest whisky licence, issued in 1919, and has produced single malt since the 1980s, making it a genuine veteran of a landscape now crowded with newer entrants.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks, the spirit develops in the typical direction for this style: vanilla, gentle cereal and light fruit, underpinned by the clean, maritime-influenced character the Akashi coastal site tends to produce. At cask strength with five years of age the result is direct and un-diluted, giving a clear picture of the distillery's new make and the bourbon wood's contribution.
