Description
Adiccion Mezcal Artesanal Espadin is a joven mezcal from the Adiccion house, built entirely from Espadin, Agave angustifolia, and pitched as the smoky, earthy counterpart to the brand's reposado and anejo. The artesanal making aims at soft, lightly smoky character rather than ferocity, finished in the brand's pale beige ceramic bottle styled to look like stone.
The agave is cooked for six days in a stone oven, then carried through a gentle five day fermentation in wooden vats before a two stage distillation and bottling at a mild 40%. The nose mixes smoke and citrus with the roundness of light caramel and spice, while the palate balances the acidity of red fruit against a sweetness like date honey. It is an accessible, easygoing Espadin made to sit alongside the aged tequilas of the same range.
