PradoRey grows organic Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero for this ripe, full-bodied red. A year in oak builds plum and dark cherry fruit, cocoa and liquorice, with the firm structure of the high Duero plateau at 15 percent.
Description
PradoRey farms organically in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the heart of Castilla y León, working Tempranillo on the high plateau above the Duero river. The vineyards sit on limestone and clay soils at altitude, where intense daytime sun ripens the fruit fully while cold nights lock in colour, acidity and tannin through a wide diurnal swing. This bottling is aged twelve months in oak barrels, which softens the dense tannins, stabilises the colour through gradual oxygen exchange and folds toast and spice into the ripe fruit. It is deep, almost opaque ruby, with a nose of ripe plum, dark cherry, cocoa and liquorice over vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is full bodied and powerful at 15 percent, with concentrated black fruit, firm ripe tannins and a long, spiced finish. The organic farming shows in the clean, vivid fruit. This is a generous, structured Ribera red built for hearty food and short cellaring. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted for an hour, in a large glass. It is made for roast lamb, grilled beef and roasted root vegetables.
