Albert Jane makes Acustic Rosat from old-vine Garnacha and Carinena grown at 500 to 700 metres in D.O. Montsant. Organically farmed on poor, stony soils, it shows ripe strawberry, cherry and white peach with a structured, savoury weight.
Description
Acustic Rosat comes from Acustic Celler, the project of winemaker Albert Jane in the town of Marca, in D.O. Montsant in Catalonia. It is built on old-vine Garnacha and Carinena, with a little Garnacha Gris, grown organically at 500 to 700 metres on poor soils studded with stones and worked for a more natural, personal viticulture. Altitude is central here: the high, stony vineyards see hot Mediterranean days and cold mountain nights, and that wide diurnal swing lets the old vines ripen the fruit fully while holding the acidity that keeps the wine balanced. Old vines, low yielding by nature, concentrate flavour and give the rosé its depth. The grapes are hand-harvested and selected, then given a short maceration on skins to draw colour and structure before a separate fermentation. At 14 percent this is a fuller, more textured rosé than most. The colour is a bright pink. The nose carries ripe strawberry, cherry and white peach over dried herbs and a peppery edge. The palate is dry, generous and savoury, with citrus freshness and a saline close. Serve at 9 to 11C. It suits grilled pork, roast vegetables and rich poultry dishes.
