Acústic Celler blends Garnacha Blanca with Macabeo, Garnacha Roja and native Pansal for this Montsant white, from old vines at 700 metres on stony soils. Kept six months on its lees, it is fresh and textured, with pear, green apple and a saline, herbal finish.
Description
Acústic Celler works in the D.O. Montsant, the hilly Catalan appellation that rings Priorat in northeast Spain. This white is a blend led by Garnacha Blanca at sixty per cent, with Macabeo, Garnacha Roja and a small share of the local Pansal. The fruit comes from old vines, between forty and eighty years old, grown at around 700 metres on the stony, poor soils of Marçà and Cornudella de Montsant. The altitude brings cool nights and a wide diurnal swing that hold acidity and aromatic freshness, while the low-yielding old vines give concentration. The grapes are picked by hand and given a cold maceration to draw out aromatics before the wine is aged for six months on its lees, which adds a fuller, more textured mid-palate without any oak. The colour is a bright straw yellow. The nose shows pear and green apple with white flowers and a fennel-like herbal note. The palate is dry and textured, with fresh acidity, a stony grip and a saline, herbal finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits grilled fish, shellfish, rice dishes and light poultry.
