Description
Acústic is the signature red of Acústic Celler in D.O. Montsant, where Albert Jané works native varieties with an honest, low intervention approach that lets the vineyard speak. It blends Garnacha Tinta and Samsó, the local name for Cariñena, both drawn from old vines in a warm Mediterranean climate of poor soils and low yields. Montsant rings the slate of neighbouring Priorat with its own mix of granite, limestone and clay, and the long dry summers ripen Garnacha to full sweetness while the altitude and cooler nights hold acidity and aromatic detail. The wine ages ten months in French oak, where measured oxygen exchange firms the tannins and folds in spice without covering the fruit. It is farmed respectfully and reflects its 15 percent alcohol with weight and warmth. The nose combines ripe red fruits with violet and a clear note of Mediterranean scrubland herbs, while the palate is full and generous with plum, pepper, liquorice and an earthy, savoury core. The finish is long and warming. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees in a large glass, decanting half an hour ahead. It suits grilled and roast red meats.
