Description
Distilled at Aberfeldy in 1983 and matured 40 years in a single ex Bourbon cask numbered MoS 23021, bottled by Malts of Scotland in 2023 at 47.2% under the Warehouse Diamonds series for the European specialist trade. 126 bottles in total, the tight yield reflecting four decades of slow evaporation. Malts of Scotland was founded in 2009 in Germany by Thomas Ewers, focused on long aged single cask releases with Warehouse Diamonds as the firm's senior tier dedicated to pre 1990 distillates and the oldest stock in the catalogue.
Long fermentation Aberfeldy spirit from the post 1972 four still expansion configuration, distilled in 1983 in the United Distillers ownership era of the distillery. Filled into a single ex Bourbon cask and aged 40 years before bottling at 47.2% with no chill filtering and no caramel adjustment under the Warehouse Diamonds house specification. The bottling strength reflects natural strength after four decades of evaporation.
Forty years in refill American oak takes the wood extraction past peak: vanillin from lignin breakdown sits at high concentration, cis whisky lactones contribute pronounced coconut and dill, and furfural plus 5 hydroxymethylfurfural from hemicellulose deliver developed caramel and pastry. Aberfeldy's distillate signature carries through four decades of slow oxidation: ethyl laurate, ethyl myristate and heavier alcohols hold the heather honey core, with polymerised polyphenols, ellagic acid and acetal compounds layering soft leather, tobacco, aged Cognac and dark dried fruit notes from extended cask contact.
