Description
Distilled at Aberfeldy in 2009 and matured 11 years in a single ex Bourbon cask, bottled by Hidden Spirits in 2020 at cask strength 53.3%. Cask code AB920, the very next cask in the bottler's internal sequence after AB 919 (Hidden Spirits' earlier 10 year old release). Released under the Highproof sub series, the firm's cask strength single cask line. 145 bottles in total, a tight yield indicating a smaller hogshead format or a more active warehouse position than its sister cask.
Long fermentation Aberfeldy wash from the four still configuration, distilled in 2009 under John Dewar & Sons (Bacardi) ownership. Filled into a single ex Bourbon cask and aged 11 years at Hidden Spirits' warehouse partners. Bottled at full cask strength 53.3% with no chill filtering and no caramel adjustment under the Highproof series specification.
Eleven years in ex Bourbon American oak at the cask's natural strength gives a slightly more developed oak signature than the 10 year sibling cask: vanillin from lignin breakdown is fractionally higher, cis whisky lactones contribute more pronounced coconut and dill, and furfural plus 5 hydroxymethylfurfural from hemicellulose carry more developed caramel. The smaller bottle yield indicates higher wood contact per litre, which compresses the extraction faster. Aberfeldy's house esters (ethyl laurate, ethyl myristate, heavier alcohols) drive the heather honey and beeswax base, with 53.3% holding the full ester volatility on the nose.
