Aberfeldy 10 at 46% from a single ex Bourbon cask DL 16800, 289 bottles for the French specialist trade. Drawn from the same 2012 vintage parcel that produced Douglas Laing’s earlier 8 year Provenance release (cask DL 15275), but held a further two years and bottled separately, with the additional cask time pushing more vanillin and lactone extraction into the profile.

Description
Distilled at Aberfeldy in 2012 and matured 10 years in a single ex Bourbon cask numbered DL 16800, bottled by Douglas Laing in 2023 at 46% under the Provenance series for the French specialist trade. 289 bottles in total. Sister vintage to the firm's earlier 8 year Provenance release (cask DL 15275, bottled 2021), drawn from the same 2012 distillation parcel but held a further two years in cask before release.
Long fermentation Aberfeldy wash from the four still configuration, distilled in 2012 under John Dewar & Sons (Bacardi) ownership. Filled into a single ex Bourbon cask and aged 10 years at Douglas Laing's bonded warehouses. Bottled at the Provenance house specification of 46% with reduced chill filtering and no caramel adjustment.
Two extra years of refill American oak over the 8 year sister release shift the balance: vanillin from progressive lignin breakdown moves higher, cis whisky lactones are more present with clearer coconut and dill, and furfural plus 5 hydroxymethylfurfural from hemicellulose contribute more developed caramel sweetness. Aberfeldy's house ester profile (ethyl laurate, ethyl myristate, heavier alcohols) still drives the honey and beeswax base but the wood frame is firmer. The texture sits oilier with the additional cask contact, the 46% bottling keeping the ester load forward.
