Description
Abel Mendoza and his wife Maite founded their winery in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in 1988, and farm seventeen hectares across different soils using ecological methods that support biodiversity in the vineyard. This is their varietal Garnacha Blanca, a white Rioja grape that gives stone fruit, fennel and white flowers with plenty of body. The wine ferments in French oak and rests around five months on its fine lees. Lees ageing releases mannoproteins from the spent yeast cells, which build texture and soften the acidity, while the light oak handling adds structure without heavy toast or vanilla. In the glass it is bright straw yellow, with white peach, pear, fennel and a touch of citrus peel on the nose. The palate is rounded and textured, carrying ripe orchard fruit and a savoury, herbal edge, with fresh acidity holding the finish. This is a food white with medium weight rather than a lean aperitif style. Serve at around 11 degrees.

Additional information
Serve with roast pork loin or grilled sea bass, where the texture and stone fruit sit well against the flesh. The herbal, fennel edge also suits mild goats' cheese and green salads. Try it with a saffron chicken rice dish.
