Terras Gauda makes this Albariño in the O Rosal valley of D.O. Rías Baixas, from vines at 150 metres. A wide day to night temperature swing drives slow ripening, giving green apple, lemon and grapefruit with a fresh Atlantic bite.
Description
Abadía San Campio is a single variety Albariño from Bodegas Terras Gauda, made in the O Rosal valley of D.O. Rías Baixas in Pontevedra. The fruit comes from vineyards in the Goián area at around 150 metres above sea level, where the marked swing between warm days and cool nights stretches the ripening period. That diurnal range is central to Rías Baixas whites, building aromatic intensity and citrus fruit while holding onto the bracing acidity that defines the region. The wet Atlantic climate and granite influenced soils reinforce the sense of freshness and give a saline lift. This is a young wine, made to show primary fruit rather than any cellar development. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is intense and fruity, with green apple and citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, backed by a subtle floral note. The palate is crisp and dry, the fruit carried by high acidity to a clean, mineral finish. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is the classic partner for shellfish and grilled white fish.
