A Teixa Blanco is a barrel-aged Treixadura from D.O. Ribeiro, made by Luis Anxo Rodríguez from low-yield plots on sandy siliceous soils. Twelve months in foudres give it a golden hue with pear, beeswax and a nutty depth.
Description
A Teixa Blanco is a Ribeiro white built mainly on Treixadura, made by Luis Anxo Rodríguez from a small estate of 2.7 hectares split across 29 plots around Arnoia in Orense. The vines are worked at low yield on sandy, siliceous soils on sloping ground, which drain freely and give the grapes concentration and a firm mineral base. The wine is aged for twelve months in large foudres, whose low surface-to-volume ratio allows slow, gentle oxygen exchange and lees contact without imposing obvious oak flavour, adding texture and a savoury depth instead. That extended élevage builds the golden colour and rounds the mid-palate while keeping Treixadura's natural freshness. The wine is deep yellow-gold. The nose is ripe pear and white peach with beeswax, honey and a toasted, almond-like note from the wood ageing. The palate is dry and broad, textured by lees, with a nutty, mineral finish. Serve lightly chilled at around 10 to 12 degrees in a larger white glass to let it open. It suits richer white fish and roast poultry.
