A.H. Riise XO Ambre d'Or Reserve is a molasses rum from the Virgin Islands, finished in Sauternes casks that push its lush, fruit-forward style toward outright dessert territory. A.H. Riise has built its name on rich, openly sweet rum, and this bottling sits firmly in that camp rather than aiming for dry, spirit-forward character.

The copy will be straight: this is a sweet rum and pours like one. The nose flirts with peach and apricot brandy, the palate is an intense fruit bomb of peach, apricot, citrus and caramel, and the finish stays sweet and fruity with vanilla. The Sauternes finish layers more sweetness and stone fruit on top, so it reads more as a rum-based liqueur than a classic aged rum.
