A very sweet, dessert style rum from A.H. Riise built on a solera system, thick and mild at 42% with candied orange, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and powdered sugar, made for the sweet tooth rather than the purist.

Description
A.H. Riise Family Reserve Solera 1838 is a molasses rum from the Virgin Islands, blended through a solera, the fractional system in which older and younger rums marry over time so each bottling keeps a trace of the oldest stock. The 1838 references the brand's heritage rather than an age, and the solera number should be read as a system, not years in cask.
This is unashamedly a dessert rum. It pours thick and mild, full of candied orange, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and a powdered sugar sweetness, with a sweet, lightly smoky finish. The copy will be straight about it: this is heavily sweetened and built for indulgence, a treat for drinkers who love sweet rum and a hard pass for anyone who prefers a dry, Foursquare style pour. At a gentle 42% it is soft and easy, a sweet after dinner pour rather than a spirit for serious neat study.
