Description
A.F.D. Patridom XO is a Dominican Republic ron distilled at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos and selected by 1423 World Class Spirits. It carries no age statement, sitting in the dessert corner of the Spanish style alongside the likes of Diplomatico and Zacapa, and at 42% it is built for approachable, no effort sipping rather than analysis.
The Dominican house style leans amber, vanilla and caramelised, and this bottling plays it sweet: caramel, prunes, cappuccino and chocolate on the nose, then honey, chocolate, coffee and sour cherry on a rounded palate, closing light and a little bitter with orange peel. The sweetness is unmistakable and best taken as part of the appeal, soft wood and almost no alcohol bite making it an easy after dinner pour or a base for sweeter cocktails. Anyone chasing dry intensity should look elsewhere, but for relaxed, chocolatey ease it does the job.
