Distinctly sweet and chocolatey, this Dominican Patridom from 1423 leans into caramel, milk chocolate and coffee over light oak, a smooth 40% column-still ron that drinks neat or in sweet cocktails for fans of dessert style pours.
Description
Patridom Seleccion Exclusiva is bottled by the Danish house 1423 from rum made at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos in the Dominican Republic. Drawn from a blend of molasses and cane juice on a column still, it follows the country's softer Spanish-style line, where the spirit is light and the appeal is built through wood and blending into something smooth and easy.
This is a sweet, chocolate forward expression and reads as such. The nose carries oak, vanilla, caramel and honey, the palate turns to caramel, vanilla and a clear milk chocolate sweetness with light oak and coffee, and the finish stays sweet with vanilla and spice. At 40% it is rounded and very drinkable, a natural fit for sweet leaning Dominican fans and a comfortable neighbour to dosed XO style rums. Anyone after a dry or high-ester profile will find it too soft, but as a dessert pour or base for sweet cocktails it delivers.
