This set brings together six bottles of Cune Roble Ribera and six crystal wine glasses. The wine is made by Bodegas CVNE, a Rioja house founded at Haro in 1879 and long respected for its quality reds, here working with Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero. Ribera del Duero sits on a high plateau along the Duero river, where the altitude creates a wide day-to-night temperature swing that keeps acidity firm and colour deep, while the poor limestone and clay soils give structured, concentrated fruit. Roble denotes a wine given a brief oak ageing, in this case around five months in American oak barrels, which contributes vanilla and sweet spice and, through slow oxygen exchange, softens the grape's naturally firm tannin. Malolactic fermentation rounds the mid-palate. The colour is deep cherry-red. The nose shows ripe plum, red berries and cherry with vanilla and a touch of dried herbs. The palate is medium to full bodied and structured, with a savoury liquorice note and a smooth finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It is a versatile red for roast and grilled meats.
