Description
Tierra de Luna comes from 4 Monos Viticultores, who revived abandoned high-altitude vineyards in the Sierra de Gredos to the west of Madrid. The vines grow on decomposed granite soils at altitude, where cold mountain nights and warm days give a wide diurnal range that slows ripening and locks in acidity and aromatic detail. Garnacha and Cariñena are field-grown here in a cool, continental setting that produces reds far lighter and more perfumed than warm-climate Garnacha. The fruit is fermented and then aged for sixteen months in oak barrels, the long élevage rounding the tannins while keeping the bright red-fruit character intact. The wine is medium ruby, with cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant on the nose, framed by black pepper, thyme and a floral rose lift. The palate is fresh and finely structured, the granite soils showing as a stony, savoury edge through a long finish. This is sustainable farming reflected in the glass. Serve at 16 degrees Celsius. It pairs with roast duck, herb-roasted chicken and grilled pork.
