4 Monos make La Danza del Viento in the Sierra de Gredos from high-altitude Garnacha, a fresh, low-intervention red. Aged 15 months in oak, it shows red berries, cherry, pepper and a floral, herbal lift.
Description
4 Monos farm La Danza del Viento Arroyo de las Animas in the Sierra de Gredos near Madrid, a high-altitude granite region that has become a reference for fresh, lifted Garnacha. The grape is old-vine Garnacha grown on decomposed granite, sandy soils that drain freely and give the wine a fine, light frame. The altitude and the cool nights it brings preserve acidity and aromatic freshness, holding alcohol to a moderate 13.5 percent and keeping the fruit bright rather than jammy. Farming is low-intervention and the wine ages 15 months in oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannin while the granite-driven freshness and floral character are protected. The colour is light, vivid ruby. The nose is perfumed, with red berries, cherry, black pepper, dried herbs and a floral, rose-like lift. The palate is light to medium bodied, the acidity fresh, the tannin fine and silky, the finish long and mineral. This is an elegant mountain Garnacha. Serve slightly cool at 15 to 16 degrees. It suits game birds, lighter meats and earthy dishes.
