Description
4 Kilos was founded by Francesc Grimalt, co-founder of Anima Negra, to revive the native grapes of Mallorca, and this white blends Malvasia with the island's local Premsal Blanco. The wine takes its name from the llampuga, a fish caught as the harvest begins. The vineyards sit on the Mediterranean island in warm, dry conditions, and the blend is picked early to hold freshness and keep the alcohol low, here 11.5 degrees. There is no oak, so the winemaking is built to preserve primary fruit and the local character of the grapes, the fermentation kept clean and the wine bottled young. The colour is pale straw. The nose is vibrant, leading on citrus of lemon and grapefruit, with floral aromas of orange blossom. The palate is light, fresh and dry, the citrus carried by a bright acidity and a faint saline note from the coastal setting, closing clean and lively. Serve well chilled, at 8 to 10 degrees, in a white wine glass.
