A Dominican Kirk and Sweeney bottling carrying a 25 marker, soft and sweet with brown sugar, honey, toffee and nutty oak over a sweet finish, an easy 40% on-the-rocks ron that trades depth for smooth, undemanding drinking.
Description
This Kirk and Sweeney Gran Reserva Superior is a Dominican ron sourced from the Bermudez distillery and released by 3 Badge Mixology, a molasses spirit distilled on a column still and matured in ex-bourbon wood. It wears a 25 on the label and sits in the soft, sweet Spanish-style mould, pitched at easy drinking rather than serious structure.
The nose shows brown sugar, floral notes, vanilla and a light spirit lift, with a palate of brown sugar, honey, toffee and a nutty edge running into a frankly sweet finish. At 40% it is smooth and gentle, an undemanding ron that leans on sweetness and softness more than oak depth or layering. It is at its most comfortable on the rocks or with cola, where its brown-sugar sweetness and light fruit carry an easygoing, relaxed vibe. Drinkers chasing a drier, more layered older rum may find it simple, but as a smooth casual pour it lands cleanly.
