A dry, unsweetened Central American column blend from 1731 Fine & Rare drawing on Guatemala, Panama and Belize, with vanilla, butterscotch, apricot and a minty lift over a light 46% frame, easygoing rather than deep.
Description
1731 Fine & Rare Guatemala Panama Belize XO Rum is a 6 year column-still blend bringing together rum from three Central American origins, bottled unsweetened at 46% by the London-based house. It keeps the familiar soft, vanilla-fruity character of the region while sidestepping the added sugar that often comes with it, an honest take on an easygoing style.
The column distillate gives vanilla, butterscotch, apricot and orange peel aromatics, with caramel, almond and light wood on the palate and a touch of mint that lifts the whole. At 46% it has a little more presence than the standard 40 percenters, yet the body stays light and the profile relatively dry, drifting slightly alcoholic and pungent on the finish. Certified unsweetened, it leans on approachability rather than depth, suiting relaxed sipping or a simple long drink more than serious study.
