Bone-dry and resinous, this is juniper-forward gin with hay-fresh green notes and a bright citrus lift. Distilled at an Austrian fruit farm whose history reaches back to a 1542 tax record, it draws on fifteen botanicals and a different character with every vintage. Strong, complex and properly old-school, finishing long and uncompromisingly dry.

Description
Hödl Hof in Stubenberg am See, Styria, first appears in the records in 1542, levied for a tax to fend off the Turks. Centuries of fruit-growing and schnapps distilling followed, and in 2022 the farm earned organic certification under Alfred Dunst. Their 1542 Old Classic London Dry came after eighteen months of trials, built from fifteen botanicals and bottled in black, medieval-style clay vessels; each batch and vintage carries its own signature.
The nose is intense and harmonious, juniper to the fore with fresh hay and citrus nuances behind. The palate is very dry, complex and strong, citrus fruit cutting through a deep resinous core of juniper. It finishes long and bracingly dry. This is a gin for a stripped-back martini, stirred cold with a lemon twist and nothing to distract from the spine of juniper.
