El Grillo y la Luna farms varied soils in D.O. Somontano, in the Aragón foothills. This single variety Syrah rosé is ripe and fruit driven, showing strawberry, plum and a peppery edge over a generous, dry palate.
Description
12 Lunas Rosado is made by El Grillo y la Luna in Barbastro, in the D.O. Somontano at the foot of the Aragonese Pyrenees. The estate works 48 hectares of its own vineyards across five areas with varied soils, from calcareous ground to alluvial gravel and loam, planted between 300 and 400 metres of altitude. This single variety Syrah rosé draws on that altitude and the mountain influence, where warm days and cool nights give a wide diurnal range that ripens the Syrah fully while holding fresh acidity. The grapes take brief skin contact to give colour and ripe red fruit before a cool fermentation in stainless steel that protects the primary character. The colour is a deep, bright pink. The nose shows ripe strawberry and cherry with plum and a peppery, herbal lift typical of Syrah. The palate is generous and fruit driven, with ripe red fruit, a savoury spice edge and enough acidity to finish dry. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits grilled meats, poultry and richer fish.
