    Pravda Vodka

    700 ml / 40%
    Plain Vodka

    $33

Pravda is a potato vodka made since 2002 in Poland’s Tatra region, using local potatoes and crystal-clear spring water. The potato base gives it a fuller, almost creamy body that grain vodkas rarely match. Each bottle is mouth-blown by Polish artisans, so no two carry quite the same pattern.

Pravda has been distilled in the Tatra region of southern Poland since 2002, drawing on the area's spring water and its well-regarded potatoes. Potato is the key here: it ferments and distils into a spirit with a fuller, rounder and creamier body than the cereal grains most vodka leans on, which is what gives Pravda its weight in the glass. The distillery runs on renewable energy and recycles its waste, and each bottle is mouth-blown by hand, so the bubbled glass differs slightly bottle to bottle. It is bottled at 40%.

The nose is fresh with a delicate cereal note and a hint of vanilla. The palate is soft and almost creamy, with light sweet grain, closing clean and long with a faintly sweet edge. That creamy potato body is the reason to use it in a Martini: stir it very cold with a small measure of dry vermouth and finish with a lemon twist, where the fuller texture gives the drink a richer, silkier feel than a lean grain vodka would.
