Abacaty Avocado Cream Liqueur

Abacaty is a vegan cream liqueur built around the flavour of ripe avocado, made in Germany by SWANG and bottled at 17% in a 50cl format. In place of dairy it uses a plant based cream, blended with Caribbean rum notes and exotic spice, so it pours like a cream liqueur but suits guests avoiding milk. The makers root the idea in an old Brazilian avocado drink reworked for a modern bar, which makes it a genuine novelty on a back bar where dairy alternatives are increasingly asked for.

The nose is gentle and exotic with avocado, vanilla, coconut and a touch of rum, the palate creamy and round with tropical fruit, light sweetness and soft spice over a velvety, vegetal finish. Behind the bar it works the way any cream liqueur does, adding body, vanilla sweetness and a smooth texture, but without dairy, which makes it useful for vegan coladas, alexanders and creamy long drinks. Serve it well chilled, neat or over ice, and treat it as a plant based product once opened, keeping it cool and using it reasonably fresh.
