Description
Villa Lobos is a Blue Weber tequila made by Carlos Camarena at the La Alteña distillery, NOM 1139, in the Arandas highlands of Jalisco, a brand born of the friendship between the Camarena and Sklar families. This is the blanco at distillation strength, filled undiluted at 55%, the maximum the regulator permits, after a six month rest in stainless steel tanks to harmonise the aromas. The agave comes from the family's own Los Altos plantations.
The house signature shows in a deeply complex cooked agave nose, joined by earthiness, herbal mint, citrus oils and a clear note of white pepper. Despite the strength the palate is viscous, oily and round, carrying a rich agave sweetness against black and green pepper and fresh lime peel. The red iron rich clay of Los Altos lends the mineral structure and a pronounced floral sweetness, making this a full bodied highland blanco built to show the agave undiluted.
