Description
Akori Gin Yuzu carries a Far Eastern name but is made in Catalonia by the family-run Destilerias Campeny, who took a Japanese-inspired tack rather than a Japanese passport. The base is a rice spirit, macerated with juniper and the prized yuzu citron before distillation. Yuzu is among the most valued fruits in Japan, and its intense, fragrant peel sets the whole tone here, giving a clean, modern profile a step removed from a classic London Dry.
The nose is fresh and citrusy, juniper meeting lemon peel and yuzu. The palate is intense yet balanced, yuzu leading with orange and lemon zest in support and a clear juniper spine. The finish is long, fresh and sharply citrus-accented. Pour into a gin and tonic with a lemony tonic and a twist of lime, or build a Yuzu Collins over soda.
