Famille Ricci Uitvlugt Exception 2024 1990

Famille Ricci is a French selector with a taste for long-aged casks, and this 1990 Uitvlugt Exception reaches thirty-four years, a closed-era Guyanese rum from the refined Savalle column marque. Bottled at 49.8% from ex-bourbon, it carries great age while staying surprisingly approachable for the strength.

The Savalle still gives a cleaner, fruitier base than the wooden pot stills, and decades in oak have layered that with leather, allspice, a vegetal note and polished wood on the nose, then an oily, tarry palate of wood and leather. The finish stays woody and oily with raisin and liquorice. There is a sharp, acidic wood edge on opening that settles with time in the glass, releasing dried and tropical fruit underneath. It reads dry and savoury rather than sweet, a slow, neat pour for drinkers who want well-aged, balanced Demerara without overwhelming heat.
