A three year old single cask from Australia’s Lord Byron, ester led with tropical fruit, ginger and molasses giving way to peppery vanilla, a young cask strength pure single rum bottled at 52.5%.
Description
Lord Byron Pure Single Rum 2019 is a single cask from the Australian distillery Lord Byron, a molasses rum distilled on a pot still in the pure single rum tradition. Vintage 2019 with three years in Ex-Bourbon oak and bottled at a cask strength 52.5%, it is a young, characterful spirit that wears its raw materials openly.
The nose is ester driven and earthy, tropical fruit meeting ginger and a clear molasses note. The palate turns sweeter with vanilla and a peppery bite, the youth showing through in a touch of spirit heat, before a finish of bourbon oak, pineapple, a roasted edge and spice. This is a rum still close to its distillate, fruity and expressive but with the rough edges of its age, a bottle that hints at what more time in cask might bring. For those who enjoy young, high proof pot still rum with an honest, unpolished character, it offers plenty to chew on.
