A seven year old single-barrel J.M agricole from Martinique at 55.2%, rich with tropical fruit, dried fruit and Christmas spice over cinnamon, dark chocolate and noble oak, a deep and balanced cask-strength sipper.
Description
Rhum J.M, distilling since 1845 in the far-north Mont Pelée terroir and a prized name in Martinique agricole, is the source of this New Vibrations single barrel, a 2015 selection for La Maison du Whisky, seven years old at 55.2%. It is an expressive, fruit-driven cask-strength expression of fresh cane spirit.
Pressed from fresh sugarcane juice and distilled on a creole column kept low to preserve the vegetal congeners, then matured in ex-bourbon oak under tropical heat, it turns rich and spice-laden. The nose carries cinnamon, sugarcane, dark chocolate and wood, the palate brings a nutty depth with dark chocolate, cinnamon and prunes, and the finish stays on dried fruit, chocolate, orange peel and cane. The fruit and Christmas-spice character is generous, with a fresh raspberry-like acidity and well-integrated alcohol for the strength. The added-sugar status is not documented and the profile reads dry. A deep, balanced single barrel for drinkers who like expressive aged agricole.
