Elizabeth Yard T.D.L Distillers #3 2011

This is the living face of Trinidad rum: light column-still spirit from Trinidad Distillers Limited, the molasses distillery within the Angostura group. Elizabeth Yard bottled this 2011 cask as a single cask at a natural 50.05 percent, a friendly, approachable strength that suits TDL's smooth and fragrant style. At 10 years old it sits in easy, summery territory.

Column-distilled from Trinidadian molasses and matured in an ex-bourbon barrel, it leads with caramel, tropical fruit and confectionery on the nose, then a sweet-edged palate of vanilla, fruit, more caramel and a whisper of liquorice. The finish brings mint, leather and gentle tannin. Lovers of soft, fruity Trinidad will recognise the candied orange and the burnt-caramel sweetness, with just enough dry oak at the end to keep it balanced. An undemanding, pleasant pour for relaxed evenings.
