An eleven year Guadeloupe agricole from ReimonenQ, distilled from cane juice and aged in ex-bourbon, fruity and gently woody with dried fruit, honey and a floral lift over a long, peppery finish, bottled at an expressive 45%.
Description
ReimonenQ Fernand d'or millesime 2009 is an aged agricole from the ReimonenQ distillery in Guadeloupe, made from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses and carrying the 2009 vintage. Eleven years of maturation place it well into vieux territory, an unsweetened cane-juice rum bottled at a sociable 45% that aims for expression rather than brute strength.
Tropical ageing in ex-bourbon oak gives it a fruity, woody depth, with a nose of dried fruit, wood, agricole funk and candied notes, a palate of wood, dried fruit, honey and fruitiness, and a finish that stays woody and fruity with a floral, peppery lift. The cane core sits beneath a rich, honeyed sweetness of flavour rather than added sugar. At 45% it hits a comfortable middle ground, offering plenty of fruit and wood without cask-strength fatigue, a well-rounded aged Guadeloupe agricole for unhurried sipping.
